Seize the moment.

Our lives are filled with mundane tasks that we often do by rote. Morning routines like showering, teeth brushing, getting dressed, etc., as well as household chores are usually executed without much thought or concentration.

What would happen if we approached them with a totally new mindset?

Imagine approaching tasks as opportunities to increase happiness by mindfully expressing gratitude.

Dreaded or unpleasant tasks such as washing the dishes or cleaning out the refrigerator can actually become a conduit for a happier day!

For example, when washing the dishes focus on an item like a soup ladle, frying pan or a favorite coffee mug. Reflect on its value or usefulness, the joy in using it, how long you’ve owned it, what life would be like without it and anything else that comes to mind.

The same principle applies to a deep cleaning, decluttering or preparing for a move. During these events we come into contact with items we don’t see often or use regularly but were probably important or once served a function. Seize the moment, reflect on item(s) and be grateful for them.
