
When praying for something we want to change the language we use is important.
For example, if someone prays that they stop speaking lashon hara or to stop looking at inappropriate material, it’s possible they could get throat cancer or blindness – G-d forbid.
Since “everything is in the Hands of Heaven but fear of Heaven” (aka desire) an excellent and more accurate way to phrase our requests to G-d is that He gives us a “full and complete desire” to stop speaking lashon hara, looking at inappropriate things — or whatever.
There might be behaviors or mitzvot that we know we should be doing, but just don’t want to. Asking for a “full and complete desire” to do them is the way to start the change process in a healthy, organic fashion.
