No More Complaining

Complaining can be tantamount to heresy. It means that we do not believe that G-d is doing the right thing — chas v’shalom! Just because we don’t understand why something seems unfair/wrong doesn’t mean it is.

Besides being the reason for 40 years in the desert and countless other tribulations, nobody likes a complainer.

The way to do teshuvah for complaining is by being grateful.

Spending a few minutes every day thanking G-d for the many blessings can change the perception of the cup being half-empty to half-full.

One way I have found to stay focused while thanking G-d is to flip through a deck of cards and for every card thank G-d for something in my life. Alternatively, you can use a deck of cards with themes like:

  • Hearts : People you are grateful for.
  • Diamonds : Possessions that make life easy.
  • Spades : Work-related situations you appreciate.
  • Clubs : The seemingly bad or painful things in life.

Another popular way to fortify this healthy (and holy) behavior is with a Gratitude Journal or phone app.
