G-d manages all of His creation through His profound, mindboggling system of Divine Providence (aka hashgacha pratit) or Divine supervision — even to the smallest detail.
In the book Spiritual Principles, a book of spiritual principles based on the translated writings of Rav Avraham Mordechai Gottlieb he writes:
Our disconnect with G-d, all the mistakes we stumble in, and all the pain and suffering that we go through has one single cause.
Introduction to the Ten Sefirot
And further on he defines the “single cause”…
The root cause is our lack of understanding the way G-d is acting with us — our not understanding divine providence.
ibid
He explains that if we were to feel the G-d’s full force for doing a sin or the sublime pleasure of doing a mitzvah we would cease to sin and only do good. This would remove free will and everyone would be completely righteous. It sounds wonderful but it’s not the purpose of creation.
So where does that leave us now?
Since G-d works in a hidden manner, it is up to us to find him — and that is called emunah! And the most efficient way to gain emunah is through personal prayer and gratitude.
Share with G-d your life, what hurts, and your goals like you would talking to a friend and tell Him how much you appreciate all the abundant goodness in your life.
This is a tremendous teshuvah for all the times you felt life was unfair.
